Best way to display birds

Hey everyone,

Just wanted to pick some brains here: what is, in your oppinion, the best mesh to display flying birds? Zoomesh? Carlos Mesh? Piano wire? Spiral mesh? I am talking about visibility and that sense of "no barrier" that most institutions go for nowadays...
I have seen some very good and some very bad enclosures with all of the above and I was wondering what the general thoughts on this are.

Check out the great Sedgwick County Zoo, the series of walk through aviaries are cost effective and have exhibits on the other side for animals including maned wolf and jaguar, very effective.

I agree with the walk-in aviaries, but some birds you cannot display like that, and my question was more in those situations.

I'm very impressed with zoomesh for non-walkthroughs. Never liked that piano wire stuff. String netting is vulnerable to squirrells.

It certainly is, Sewerby Zoo's new Lemur exhibit had to have its roof replaced before any animals arrived.

I like aviaries with traditional mesh of various sizes as appropriate or chainlink on occasions but with no stand-off barriers. Viewing is fine and photography is easy. Of course not all species can be displayed like this, but many can and are at a number of places I visit. I cannot recall seeing any problems caused by visitors due to the lack of stand-off barriers - I think most of the likely trouble-causing type of visitors do not bother with birds anyway.
