Binoculars in zoos

I was birding on Hampstead Heath last weekend before going to London Zoo and so had my binoculars with me. It was an absolute revelation, being able to see the animals so close-up. I'm never going to visit a zoo without them again.

Does anyone else take binoculars with them when they visit zoos?

Yes, I have brought my trusty Leica 8 x 20 bins with me to zoos before both as a visitor and when I've worked in them.

Sometimes with larger enclosures they are useful and in zoos where there is wildlife around and things like that too.

Indeed, and never without them at Wildfowl and Wetland Centres such as Martin Mere and Slimbridge, where a telescope is also a necessity.
