Longleat has anounced on their website that they have had two eland calves born last month and one scimitar-horned oryx calf born. The elend calves were born to a first time mum and a mum which has had two previous calves. This is the second year running that Longleat has had scimitar horned oryx births.

Any news on relaunch of the white rhino breeding programme?

They probably won't breed as they have been brought up like siblings. Hopefully they will be prepared to trade bulls.

One of the female rhino was rumoured to be pregnant before christmas. Haven't heard anymore though.....?

It was me that spoke to a keeper by the Giraffe viewing area about the Rhinos last October. I asked if there was any chance of a pregnancy, and they said that there was a mating and the female did not come into season when expected. I cannot remember if they had done tests and were awaiting results, or whether they had yet to test. Either way they didn't know.

Where has the siblings idea come from, out of interest?

The siblings idea has been discused on the chatroom. Someone told me that they have been brought up like that and probably will not breed as a result.
