Just been looking through ISIS, and It looks like Blackbrook have Polyplectron chalcurum otherwise known as Bronze tailed peacock pheasant.

Now, these birds are really rare in zoos, and if Blackbrook does keep them could someone confirm it. They are the only species of peacock pheasant that I need to see and film, so I'd like to complete my collection!
 
To our inside man at Blackbrook how are the open billed storks doing and how many boat billed heron were bred last year, and have any other British zoos shown an interest in acquiring any?
 
the bronze tailed peacock pheasent is currently off show and has been for a while now. the openbilled seem tohave settles in well and the outside enclourser is still under construction as is the penguins and river hogs everything seems a little behind. due date for all projects is april. the marmosets, puffins and torrents have not been started and i am unsure wether these will be undertaken. hopefully the torrent ducks will but the penguin enclourser has been extended not leaving a great lot of room for them.

3 boat billed herons have been breed reared this year with the perants sitting another clutch i am not sure if anybody has shown a interest in these birds or if we will be keeping them
 
When I come next, could I see the Bronze tailed peacock pheasant?
They are amazing birds and I'd rather not spend thousands on a trip for a trip to Jurong Birdpark, when there is a chance of seeing one about an hour from my door!!

I'm not against a trip to Singapore, I'd just rather let my Parents spend less money!!

I should be coming around my birthday again, so I might be able to see the Hogs, Penguins and Openbills.

You are a little behind arent you. I would have thought the penguin place would be near complesion by now
 
another pool was added about 2/3rds of the size of he origanal so this could be credited for the time dely

Yer i was looking at the map yesterday to see how far away it is in matter off fact.
 
yeah that website is a new one but i think we may be getting another new one. the tapir was moved on last year and i think she is now at noahs ark?
the penguin pool is the main job at the moment and its become quite a job.

jobs to be completed by easter are meant to be
1. peguin pool and walk way
2. red river hogs enclouser and walk way
3. avairy next to river hogs (unsure of species intended)
4. open billed stork pen
5. new black necked crane pen
6. asian sarus crane pen

other jobs started but no due date are
1. african section (extentsion to exisiting park) unsure of species intended
2. large walkthrough avairy where the brook flows through the park intened species included ibis and spoonbills
i will see if i can get a upto date stocklist and post it up

Why is there a new Black necked Crane pan? They've only just got their current one.

Are you thinking of making a guidebook?
 
no idea why but it will give them a much larger pen pretty much back where they use to be. i dont really like them new crane pens much any way. no plans of a guide book that i have heard off
 
As one of the member`s who visited yesterday,i will say thanks for your time spent talking to yourself and collegue when you showed us round your new penguin exhibit,having seen it in the state its in at present it should take Blackbrook into a whole new level of exhibit and build project as its on a totaly different scale of build to anything that been done their before,as ever the collection is great always something different to see,but please can you get the labels sorted on some of the ducks and geese particularly the Canada Geese as you have at least 3 different species of them.
 
The Sentinel of 3rd January published an article about the penguin pool, together with a picture of the uncompleted enclosure.

8 penguins are coming from Germany in time for Easter, with other bird species added later.

The reporter claims that Blackbrook has the biggest aviary in Britain, and one of the largest in Europe.

One visitor thought the penguins would be an improvement and she also wanted a better children's play area. Another visitor liked the meerkats and believed the penguins would bring in more visitors.

Charlotte Atkins MP for Staffordshire Moorlands said that Blackbrook had a good record in animal husbandry and that the park was an excellent educational centre for schools.

I agree with zoogiraffe. The labelling could be better. I'm still trying to identify my Canada geese pictures which were taken in July 2007.
