Bloedel Conservatory Bloedel Conservatory

I haven't been there in twenty years but did enjoy it. In the past, visitors would come and secretly release the cage birds they were tired of (parakeets, canaries, finches)

The Vancouver park board voted 4-3 Wednesday to approve cuts that will include closing the children's farmyard in Stanley Park and the Bloedel Conservatory in Queen Elizabeth Park. The Bloedel Conservatory and Stanley Park Petting Zoo will both be closing, unless some miracle occurs in the form of a rich donor:

This link has a couple of nice photos and more details about the Conservatory. However, the facillity was only receiving about 70,000 visitors per year, and if it does manage to remain open the 40 year-old building will need a new $2 million roof.

Fate of Bloedel Conservatory in the balance - In the Garden

That's very unfortunate. When I took my family to Vancouver and Victoria in 1996, Bloedel, Stanley Park Petting Zoo and the Vancouver Aquarium remain fond memories for I, my wife, and our two sons. They were 9 and 3 then, and we have worn out the videos we took on that wonderful trip.
