Bobcat "Rescue"

Some men set a trap out wherever the heck they live and accidentally caught a Bobcat. Now here they are trying to "rescue" it. I wonder which one of them thought, "Hey I got a great idea for freeing it! Let's hold an already pissed animal that could cause a good deal of pain to us down with a stick and make him more pissed!" They had good intentions, but clearly don't know what the hell they're doing. Poor cat, having to deal with traps and stupid men. (Note: There is swearing in the video.)

I don't know how many men were present,(two?) but this was a proper botched job. If one had held the Bobcat down quietly and securely with the stick, while another opened the trap, they could have freed it more quickly with far less trauma. I suspect one of them was filming it though. It was very lucky its foot wasn't badly damaged with all the violent struggling they caused it to do.

Bobcat 'rescue'

Covering its head with a coat and talking calmly, rather than leaping around swearing and shouting, might have helped as well.

presuming they just came across the bobcat randomly (rather than the trap being their own....) then well done for them releasing the animal, but yes "a proper botched job" as Pertinax put it. The whole time watching it, one is just thinking "why doesn't the other guy help instead of standing there with the camera laughing?"

The still image from the youtube preview makes it look like the man is spearing the animal, so I will take a pass and not watch the video.

it is a long stick with a fork on the end. He is trying to pin the cat down so he can open the trap jaws with his feet. The cat has other ideas and it is a wonder it can run so fast at the end after the abuse its foot must have taken in the trap's teeth!!

It sounds like a happy ending after all then.

Yes, I too was surprised it could place its paw securely on the ground straight after being freed, let alone run away so fast, but it did. No thanks to their treatment though.:rolleyes:

I also wondered if it was their own trap?

I have read that it is indeed their own trap.

Two things made me think that;

1. The fact they had come across the trap in the first place, always possible of course but more likely if they knew where it was situated already.

2. The way the guy kept saying 'he's free, or 'there he goes'- it sounded a bit of a guilt trip.
