Bristol Zoo (Closed) Bristol Zoo news 2012

This is something I have never heard before but you have me interested now.;) It is the correct year for Salome's birth (born 16.7.76) but as I said above, she was only with her mother for about 21 days before they decided to handrear. I would have thought putting them with Guy was such a big risk they wouldn't have dared to try it, and if he threw the baby from a height he would more likely have killed her. Still, like you, I rather doubt they would have concocted such a story just for the Press.

Salome's date of birth for this story also tallies, it was reported in the papers in the last week of July that year, as we were on holiday in London that week when it was in the papers, this is why I thought for some time afterwards that Guy was her father.

I heard some nice news for Bristol yesterday. It's one of those chains of friend of friend type thing + even though its a chain of keepers I'm going to keep quiet until its made public, but I don't think that will be long so keep fingers crossed things continue to go well.

I volunteer at Bristol Zoo, and I think I know what this is regarding! Lovely news and I'm sure an announcement wont be too long.

Sorry if I've just become an annoying noob Ha :D

Funnily enough I was just thinking about this, wishing it could be Romina but thinking probably Kera if this is it... fingers crossed! ;)

From what they told me it sounds as if Romina is unlikely ever to get pregnant again by Jock, at least without some artificial method being used. I wouldn't normally speculate on a pregnancy in this way but Kera does seem likely.

I'm going to stick my neck out and guess that this "lovely news" is a new litter of Asian Lion cubs....

Have they got a new male post Kamal? Otherwise I think he died too long ago for posthumous fatherhood?

This is a bit like playing poker where we're trying to guess what Bristol is holding (back).
Shall we see a baby gorilla (if all goes well)? Or do we play for higher stakes with another aye-aye baby - wouldn't it be nice if the mother could rear one herself. Perhaps Kifaru Bwana was right and it's the jackpot - the news that the first sod will be cut at Hollywood Towers
Or perhaps Bristol are bluffing: they are going to follow Regents Park's example and house another group of meerkats :p

The reference to 'lovely' news makes me think it isn't that (more likely to be 'exciting' news?) and so more likely an impending birth?

Not replacement male yet. Kamal died late November - gestation is around 110 days. It's quite possible that a birth took place in November/December and it's just not been announced straight away (When the last litter was born it was around two months post birth before an annoucement was made)

Oh right...it would be nice for the Zoo if that's what the 'event' is.

Bets anyone- Gorilla- or Lion cubs- or something else?:)

I'm going for an Okapi or Gorilla. The Okapi may be great timing as it's been a year and a half since they lost one to a stillborn.

July 2011? I don't think it was stillborn, I went to an evening event at the gorilla house and they said they were trying to hand-rear it.
