News from the 17th October,

“Exciting Hedgehog news - we have hoglets! One of our Hedgehogs has recently given birth to a late littler of six healthy hoglets. Hedgehogs are, of course, a firm favourite of many however they are unfortunately in drastic decline across the country. Over the last few years we have had several litters born at the centre with the majority of the youngsters being released into the wild to increase populations.” - BWC Keeper Team

Just visited the collection for the first time today, it is a really charming zoo and had excellent, creative and well designed enclosures. The active Least Weasels were a real treat, and I was impressed in general with the diversity of small mammals kept. I will say they no longer display Eurasian Rabbit, Grey Squirrel or Common Toad

How many of the species were active? I would've thought many of the smaller animals would be hibernating, as well as the snakes. Also do you know what's in place in the enclosures of the rabbits and squirrels, or are they just empty?

Yes pretty much all of the rodents and mustelids were inactive, along with the snakes. The terrapin in the hedgerow exhibit was active surprisingly. I can’t say about the old enclosures as this was my first visit, there was a lot of species with multiple enclosures across the site
