Before I start, this is my first post on Zoochat so excuse if this looks different than most forums here.

I am thirteen years old and am very interested in zoos. I am a regular visitor of The Bronx Zoo, as I live 15 minutes away. The Mouse House at The Bronx Zoo is a very interesting building that has a large rodent collection that changes a lot. Hopefully this is helpful to anyone who has visited the zoo already or plans to visit in the future.

Bronx zoos Mouse House Species list As of 4/10/24

Red Panda.

NOTES: 1: The enclosure that seemed to house a tenrec did not have it signed.
2: Along with the Desert Gerbil that I could identify but also wasn't signed. Some of the signs are going under renovation.
3: There is construction going on in the African Pygmy mouse enclosure.
4: I could not find the bushbaby or the jumping rat though I assume that the jumping rat is gone since I have not seen it in forever.
5: The small cages outside the mouse house display the following in the summer months :
Pudus
White faced saki monkeys
Bolivian grey Titi Monkeys
Agouti
Golden Lion Tamarin

6: The seventh cage closest to the exit of the Mouse House is going under renovation. In the past it has housed cotton topped tamarins.
7: There are red panda exhibits at the Himalayan Highlands and Monorail so their stay outside the mouse house is hopefully temporary, as the cages are not very nice.
That's it. Hopefully people found this interesting, until next time.

Welcome to ZooChat :)
The Mouse House is very popular exhibit amoung the members of this forum and I am happy to see the up to date species list.
There are less rare species than they used to be ( I saw Western Spotted Skunk for example), but still very interesting place.

Welcome to ZooChat and thanks for the list. It's great to have species lists on this site as they are a valuable reference guide.

Yes I agree there have been a number of interesting species go, some that I have seen recently leave the building are : Harris antelope squirrel, Jumping rat, Rock cavy, Desert Jerboa, and armadillo.

I don't mean to be that guy, but I think you mean Pallid gerbil (Gerbillus floweri) not Pailed gerbil. Also, the Harvest mice you are referring to are actually Eurasian harvest mice (Micromys minutus), not Eastern harvest mice (Reithrodontomys humulis). For what it is worth, Eastern harvest mice (Reithrodontomys humulis) arent even in the database on Zootierliste.
