Buffalo Zoo Buffalo Zoo News 2021

One tufted deer is on exhibit as well as the geese.
Ok I'll go and check it out, got to hope there is going to be another species or several more tufted deer that is a pretty large exhibit for a small deer species and some geese.

Went to the zoo yesterday for the first time since the pandemic here is the changes I observed. Half of the fencing around the round animal pavilion behind the otters and polar bear has been torn down, the vultures are still in the old cage on the side facing the rainforest building. There is a sign saying new exhibit coming, I would think this is better fencing/ netting for the vultures. Hopefully they give them added height and structures. The old elephant yard is now planted with grass with medal structures around the trees replacing the old post fences that was there with the elephants. Seemed to be a lot room for a young black rhino than 2/3 elephants. Lulu the black rhino was busy scratching her bottom on the wall when I saw her. The bird feeding area next to the polar bear has been replaced by goat island. They kept the shade structure but opened the sides to let the goats roam around. It was pretty nice and very clean 8 or 9, 3 month old goats running around head butting each other. The yard has a goat only area and plenty of climbing platforms. With the male rhino moved to another zoo the rhino exhibit doors are open letting Tashi and Mohan roam between both yards. Inside the giraffe house both of the wire cages that used to house bird and hyrax are gone. It seems much bigger in there but hopefully they plan on adding some kind of exhibit or interactive signs because it is very bare in there. I did see paint samples on the wall so hopefully something is coming. Inside the rainforest there were no camien in the pool and the zoo built plexy glass barriers between the monkeys and the public. In the reptile house they have replaced the alligator lizard with fiji banded iguanas they are very beautiful lizards. The lion cubs were out and very active. The new naked mole rat colony is a very good use of space next to the gorillas. The chicken coop in the farm is now home to several different chickens including polish and silky. The former reindeer exhibit is now home to tuft deer and Chinese brown geese that they had labeled as swan geese. They didn't really do many renovations, they cleaned and filled the old pond and put in some smaller feeders. I saw six geese but zero turf deer. It is a very big exhibit for 1 tuft deer hopefully there are more animals to come.
