Butterfly World Butterfly World review + species list

Today I went to Butterfly World, a small zoological/botanical facility near where I live. I was gifted a South Florida Adventure Pass, a special ticket which lets you go to 4 attractions during the summer as many times as you'd like at no additional cost. Besides Butterfly World, the ticket includes Flamingo Gardens, Museum Of Discovery & Science and Sawgrass Recreation Park; all 4 places have animal exhibits and are within 30 minutes of me, so needless to saw I will visit them during this month (the pass expires at end of September).

I'm not a big fan of butterfly gardens and this one costs around $30 to enter, so I would not have done it had I not received this great gift. But I actually did enjoy my time here. At the entrance is a butterfly research center containing caterpillar and pupae of various species. Then you enter a beautiful and well-maintained garden filled with butterflies (around 50 species). Many of these are absolutely gorgeous and the air is filled to the brim with lepidopterans fluttering about. Additionally, there are some small aviaries, including a lorikeet feeding area, and a small bug zoo. A small place, but rather nice.

I don't think this converted me to a butterfly garden fan, but it was a nice experience and I would imagine fans of such places would really enjoy this one.

I uploaded some photos in the gallery. Here is also the species list.

Butterfly World is the grand daddy of butterfly exhibits. Before every science center and zoo had a butterfly aviary, there was Butterfly World (when we were planning the original Butterfly Zone at the Bronx Zoo this was the main facility I visited to understand what a butterfly exhibit could be)

Based on the species list, this would be a great little place to visit. I will definitely try to make it here next time I'm in Florida.
