Plans have been put in place to create a new California condor release facility in the Pacific Northwest. The project will be going ahead largely due to the efforts of the indigenous Yurok Tribe; the condor has special cultural significance to the Yurok. The release will help increase the range of the birds and reduce the threats they face from being restricted to a smaller geographic area. The tribe is hoping to release the first condors in autumn 2021 or spring 2022, with the releases focused on the Yurok Ancestral Territory and Redwood National Park. This reintroduction will mark the first time condors have flown over the Pacific Northwest in more than 100 years.

This is great news! I'm always happy to see when these types of initiatives are taken by locals.
