It was in the U.S., a private ranch for breeding endangered equids on the border of New Mexico and Colorado, but I read elsewhere on this site that they shut down and were selling off all their stock. They had literally hundreds of onagers or kiangs (I forget which, though I believe they had some of both). Never open to the public, too bad, because I would have loved to see it. I think Okapikpr was the one who knew the most about it.
That explains why i didn`t recognize it as a U.K collection, but had heard of a great Equine collection in the states. Now for a question whats this thread doing in the U.K part of the forum when its on about a U.S.A collection?????
The had hundreds of kulan not kiang or onagers. The current population in all of north america for kiang is like 5.3 and they had maybe one male and they had about 30 onagers. The last load of animals left a week or so ago and they owner Bill Grunerwald died a few days after.
Different places. They made the dealers take like 10 for each 1 of the good stuff. Such as if they wanted a grevy female or hartmann they had to take 10 kulan for each one. They shot most of them and/or gave them to people who would take them in. Dealers couldn't get anything for them plus they are illegal to sell so most just got shot or trampled in the trailers. Most dealers were moving 30-50 head in one trailer.
