Does anyone know if cat fleas pose a threat to parrots. My nephew's girlfriend has a cat and my nephew has brought home some fleas. My brother is concerned wether they will be dangerous to an orange-winged Amazon parrot.

I do not think they will be, but if anyone knows for definite one way or the other I would like to know.

Thanks.

I would have thought no, as cat fleas are parasites of mammals not birds, but on the other hand they could still bite the birds in the search for blood and transmit disease. I did a google and found this one which says don't worry:
Birds don't get fleas - ParrotChronicles.com Ask a Vet

and this one: fleas and parrots - Avian Avenue

It seems the only thing you need to worry about is if using chemicals to kill off the fleas because they will affect the bird so it would need to be removed from the premises while treatment of the house is ongoing.
