I Have been wondering which conservation programs can optimism be applicable. For example I would say in the Uk the palm oil crisis in indonesia have been gathering headlines recently so I would like to be slightly optimistic in that more poeple are becoming aware of the plight of orangutans (and of course other indonesian wildlife, but orangutan being the most identifiable) that the demand for palm oil might decrease (if slightly).

Also I would say this would be applicable to the kakapo project with continued breeding and a rise in numbers.

So what other projects would you be optimistic about?

A lot of silence about this topic! Well, I heard Al Gore speak two nights ago and he seems to believe we can solve this climate problem if we just get to it and exercise the political will. And it sounds as if some of the ocean issues are being addressed: gill netting in Australia, fertilizer runoff in the Mississippi River that is causing huge dead zones in the Gulf of Mexico. I'll try to think of a few more...
 
Have you tried looking at the WWF website it may give you some information in that regard I am sure there are some conservation programs that have had good effect, maybe the Giant Panda and Indian rhinos are on the increase?
 
I'm doing my English Oral on the Palm Oil crisis (with a particular focus on the Clouded Leopard), so it'll be interesting to see what I can gather for that.
 
I have a lot of cautious hope for the Amur Tiger. I really believe that with further crackdown of poaching, habitat loss, continuation of captive breeding programs, of all the tiger species, they may have the chance of survival in the wild.
