If anyone is interested, and as far as I am aware, P. Chalmers Mitchell's Centenary History of the Zoological Society of London (1929) has been made publicly available online for the first time, which has been an enormous boon for my personal research (saves me about 2 hours of commuting to my university's archive...). Chalmers Mitchell was the Secretary of the ZSL from 1903-1935.

I don't have particularly strong feelings about Chalmers Mitchell, but his writing about the Hamadryad baboon exhibit's renovation into Monkey Hill being a success... Talk about PR control. Solly Zuckerman (and any zoo history academic with any interest in modern zoos) have a lot to say about that. o_O In any case, I really like the time he dedicates to exhibit renovations. Dated as they are, I think it's useful and interesting to see how people in the past perceived of proper animal care.
