The Asiatic Elephant calf has been named "Hari Hi Way", keeping with the family surname. Once again, chosen by Ruth Rendall.

I like that name quite a lot! Chester's 'Hi Way' unit is quite impressive, I'm pretty sure that it's the only one in the UK apart from Howletts/PL with a proper family unit (Aunties, sisters, etc).

Bit of sad news the male red panda has died :(
He lived to a good age tho 15

He reached a damn good age for the species, at any rate :)

Miniature Monkeys have been re-jigged again. Black-Tailed Marmosets and Pygmy Marmosets are back together on the West side, with the Sakis and Titis separated on the East side.

The cattle house was today closed for refurbishment, with the Buffalo and Warthogs both off show. The giraffe house was closed today for emergency maintenance, again the giraffes were locked in.

last time I was in the cattle house, there were 2 travel crates in the warthog side about 10 days ago.....

I've seen those as well - there's also been a new fence put up on that side. Here's hoping there's something more exciting going in, but judging by the age of the cattle house, I don't think there'll be any major changes. That said, Congo Buffalo look like they'll be stuck there for some time as I don't they're part of the paddock reshuffle.

Sumatran orangutans

Why is there no news about Subis's baby, born on 13 December 2012? Is everything alright?

As far as I know everything is okay.

A mate has been acquired for the singe white-winged wood duck.

think Subis is not being as co operative as Emma was, I have not seen the baby yet as she is always hidden away when I go. Emma like to bring Tripa to the glass and show you he is a boy, she is a very proud mum :)

Thanks! Presumably the keepers know what sex it is by now. It seems strange that there's been no announcement.

Just announced via Twitter - it's a female and named Tuti.

Maybe they'd forgotten until they saw your post! :D
