To kick off the new thread for the 2nd half of 2015 - The new male Giraffe calf has been named Sanyu (meaning Happiness)

The duckery currently houses a pair of red-breasted geese and 2 goslings, hatched 7th June.

From the previous thread. Quoting from Swampy "There was a small flock of what looked like ruddy shelduck in the off display area behind the wetland bird aviary/waterbird nursery."

My apologies Swampy, you were right all along, I was incorrect in my identification of Cape Shelduck. They are now onshow in the 'pelican' aviary.

Is it just me, or is the annual report usually up on the website by now? I'm sure the 2013 one was up by this time last year.

The AGM is late this year, so I expect the annual report to be late. Can't
see Chester doing the sensible thing and putting it up early.

I had a tip off from a friendly neighbourhood curator this afternoon. There is a second Philippine chevrotain in Dragons in Danger, unfortunately both animals are in a back enclosure so they are hard to see.

Yes, they were expecting a female this year.

Looks like it will be a hat trick (fingers crossed) as another female looks ready to give birth imminently!

we noticed when we came a few days they were born that there was 3 pregnant so hopefully won't be to long before this ones born ...the new one's are beautiful , when we saw them yesterday one of them was running around the paddock

Very nice visit all round today. Quite a few nice sightings - both onager foals were out and about, as were all the Tuataras. The pouched rat was feeding right next to the window and I finally saw the Red-fronted Lemurs!

A few non-Islands updates from today that I don't think have been mentioned here:

- the Green Aracaris in the Tropical Realm are now up to four in number
- there is a now a Green Jay mixed with the Blue-throated Macaws and at least a pair of Brazilian Tanagers in with the currassows
- there has been some serious tree work on the canal bank opposite the giraffes, leaving it feeling much more open
- and, with the opening of Islands, all signage for the Waterbus has been removed and this appears to have been retired. Farewell to a long-standing Chester feature.

Please forgive me if this is not the right place

Zootierlist is currently displaying that Chester Zoo holds Malayan Tigers and Sumartran Tigers!!!!

I know they have 7 Sumatrans and before them Bengals and Amur. Surely the Malayan tag is an error?

I understood that Chester currently/recently had a Pygmy Hippo that hadn't ever been placed on show at Chester Zoo but was out on loan to another zoo in the long anticipation of HOA. Is this my memory playing tricks on me?

Does Chester Zoo have a specific policy on hot Herps? Obviously the collection has been decimated with only a few hot species left. I was told by a keeper in August 2014 that they had looked into King Cobras for the Islands project and might be getting them. I really wanted to believe the keeper but thought that flying pigs or Dodo was a more likely option.

Is there a list of of off show/on loan animals from Chester Zoo available?

Thanks for any help.

The Malayan Tiger listing is (as you suspected) false: It relates back to a recent German news article which turned out to be complete and utter rubbish in every sense of the word

Unfortunately the information from that article has been added to ZTL, then removed, then added again a few times over :p
