Attention Map collectors....
Following on from last years flurry of excitement when the new map (however woeful) became collectable by the fact that there were several different images available.

2012 has seen the revamp and reissue of said map as most of you know.

I have currently seen in the small pocket maps the following designs:

Zebra
Orang Utan
Red Panda

apparently there are going to be 6 different covers - one of which is a meerkat, the other two I don't know yet.

There are larger 'double sided' ones available too - and in that design I have seen a Black Rhino/Hunting Dogs version only so far.

go get them folks!!

The only small map I have has a zebra on the cover.

Large maps

flamingo/chimpanzee
black rhino/Tyrannosaurus rex
African wild dog/penguin

This year's deliberate mistake: they have missed the bongos off. I'm very disappointed.

I got a few copies of the rhino/chimp one from Tesco in Chester :) - also stock leaflets for at least Knowsley and Rhyl SeaQuarium as well :)

Download their fantastic free visitor information app for iPhone and Android.
Ummm... "fantastic" is it?

Aside from the app being remarkably similar to the one from ZSL London, it's worst sin is the lack of anything other than scant information about the animal collection - just nineteen species in all.

The "Day Planner" doesn't work (ICS on a Nexus S) and the "About" section is an embarrassment.

It keeps crashing on my Galaxy S2, force close almost every 2nd task - gave up playing with it, will try again next time I'm at the zoo.

I had the same problem also confused with the info on the baby anteater? and the tiger cubs have changed names?
This is the sort of thing that simply isn't good enough. Spend absolutely ages developing an app, pay goodness knows how much and then get what information there is wrong.

The young anteater died ages before the app was released, so there really is no excuse.

As an old man once said todays techno is only as good as the person who puts the data on it.
Did have the App but got fed up with it keep crashing a shame really as this could be a good app if only it worked

It's not been that long since we had the argument about this involving another zoo so please lets not make this thread the same.

Have got all three small maps and the person in the information centre there are likely to be 6 this year a new one every other month

Yep, exactly what I said when I started the thread!

But I did forget to say that I have a Giraffe small map too - so that's 4 to date.

I've only just realised it but the new logo bears a resemblance to the shape of the zoo in the 1960s.

The C of Chester being where the waterfowl, bison and rhinos were. The Z of zoo being the southern part of the grounds alongside Flag Land and the R of Chester being where the old car park was (now Cedar House).

There is indeed a vague resemblance, purely accidental I'm sure.

It has been said that the new logo looks a lot like this:
