Welcome to the forum. You can find most of the answers to your questions on existing threads however I will do a short update for you.

A female Giant Otter arrived from Liepzig Zoo (Germany) in April as a mate for Xingu. They have settled well together and hopes are high that they will breed in the near future

Nayan is progressing well.

The first of two Giant Anteaters has now arrived and is being housed beind the giraffe house. He is supposed to be on show but is rarely seen. Later this year a female will arrive and they will have a new house built for them near Cloud Forest.

African Wild Dogs will not come until 2011 now.

The bush dog pups are doing well.

There's no major news on the Jaguars

Asha and Iblis are getting on well and will hopefully have cubs next year.

The male cheetahs are called Singha, Burbah and Matrah. The female is called Kinky Tail due to an oddly shaped tail ;)

Fabi and Kirana have been mating but so far haven't produced cubs.

There are no confirmed Rhino pregnancies but Kitani is now back with Sammy.

Natural Vision will hopefully be completed in 2014.

Hope this helps

Asani has been weaned from Kitani and is now in the off show house with Malindi.

The zoo plans to breed Cheetah in the future but so far it hasn't happend.

The Giant Anteater is called Pedro

Bella the giraffe is fine. She will leave Chester before the end of the year along with her mum Kelly to make way for a pure Rothschild female to join the current 1:2

Chester does not have tree kangaroo

Please read the previous threads if you want more questions answered.

The current Rhino situation is that Sammi and Kitani are in the Tsavo building, the two paddocks house Asani/Malindi and Ema/Bashira. Magadi, Manyara and Rosie are off show. I think cheetah's have been introduced but I haven't heard of any matings. Maybe next year on that one. The male anteater is named 'Pedro', you haven't got much chance of seeing him though as he is very lazy! Bella is fine and will leave with Kelly sometime during the Summer hopefully. Notable new species this year include obviously the Otters and Anteaters. A Natal Red Duiker has also arrived but I do not know all the arrivals. There are no Tree Kangaroo at Chester.

EDIT: Seen Nisha got there first :)

thankyou for this information is there any plans for dog species and i think i would like to know more about chester i have been 6 times in the past 2years seeing 4 asiatic lion asha, ashoka, chakra and the new male iblis is there any plans for tree kangaroo because the zoo has nearly got every animal and the chimpanzee's are they moving into the natural vision to make way for new species in there island

@jordan-12, I suggest you come on the chatroom and I'll answer these questions and any others.

Upali will probably leave in a few years, as will Nayan, so a new breeding male can be brought in for Thi, Sithami, Sundara and Thi's calf if it's female.

is there another baby elephant thats great news
upali should breed with blackpool zoo 3 females kate, marcella and indra i would love to see a baby as the old male died without breeding and they natal red duiker is there just the 1 female

1. Blackpool's elephants are all old 'retired' females- too old to breed for the first time now.

2. They have never had a male Elephant.

3. They have no accomodation to house a male elephant.

4. The calf born at Chester(Nayan) won't be old enough to breed for many years yet.

Beat me too it!!

Chester Rhinos- I'm confused!

The current Rhino situation is that Sammi and Kitani are in the Tsavo building, the two paddocks house Asani/Malindi and Ema/Bashira. Magadi, Manyara and Rosie are off show.

I've lost track a bit of the rhinos. Since breeding resumed, have there been three calves or two? Can you list their names, sex, parents and birthdates(approx will do) Many thanks.

asani was born on the 29th october and bashira was born on the 15th of march sammy and kitani share an enclosure and malindi and asani now do

In the Tsavo Building are a breeding pair:
Sammi - born in Japan, around 2002 I think it was
Kitani -born Chester 1998 to Quinto and (Pangani?)

In one paddock:
Malindi - born Magdeburg (2006?), came to Chester 2008
Asani - born Chester 2008, to Sammi and Kitani

In the other paddock:
Ema - born Dvur Kralove, around 2002
Bashira - born Chester 2009 to Magadi and Ema

Off Show:
Magadi - born Port Lympe, (1999 I think)
Rosie - born London ages ago
Manyara - born Chester last 1990s, father is Quinto so half sibling to Kitani

Could do with checking this though.

Thanks for the updates. So still two calves then.

Yes, Kitani is Quinto x Pangani(deceased)
