TRAFFIC - Wildlife Trade News - TIME magazine exposes plans for Chinese rhino?farming?
I don't know how fair dinkum thsi story is as I can not find the relevant TIME issue to read the article.

Could the idea of harvesting rhino horn on animals kept in captivity solve the poaching problem? IN theory I can see how it would work, my meeting demand through the non lethal cutting of captive rhino horns, wild animals would not be killed and again in theory I don't have a problem with it. My main concerns would be the state that the animals are kept in, China doesn't have thebest captive animal care in the world and would it encourage the continuation of a bogus "medicine' that has no scientific validity at all.

Article and video of the largest rhino-farmer world-wide :

John Hume is a South African rhino farmer. Hume owns the largest rhino farm in the world, with more than 1,160 rhinos. He’s currently falling just short of his aim of breeding 200 rhino per year. His aim is to save the species, many people dont share his views, but the reality is that we loosing rhinos faster than ever, and we need other solutions than the ones currently being used.

Sadly, the reality is that farming has exacerbated the trade in other endangered megafauna. It creates a cover for illegal activities and can drive up the price of "premium" wild-sourced products.
