Peter Garrett has refused the proposed extension of phosphate mining in Christmas Island, due to unacceptable environmental impacts.

In a few years when phosphate is running low and china stops exports it will be worth a lot more. While cities are dumping phosphate they import in food into the sea as sewage, we are losing it. When it runs out and crop yields plummet we will want it to stop starvation for a few more years. I dont think people realize how little food we will be able to produce without it.
