Here in the United States, it has become extremely popular for zoos to host special evening light displays during the month of December. I just wonder if a lot of zoos in other countries do this?

Yes they do - but not as many as in the USA. E.g.: In Erlebniszoo Hannover (Germany) some areas are surrounded from lights and they have also created special winter attractions like an icefield for skating.
