Cincinnati Zoo and Botanical Garden Cincinnati Zoo News 2019

I can't believe it took me this long to find this, but here's a map of what the Elephant Reserve would be after its renovation. As expected, the yards will not only be combined into one, but the space will expand into the plaza, go over the Go Green Garden, and touch the swan lake bridge. Notice that there will be an elephant sculpture in the center, but the elephant house is labelled 'Former Elephant House'. I don't mean to speak too soon, but could this be why the Go Green Garden path is blocked off?

I think so, are they demolishing it?
 
I hate to keep going back and forth on the Elephant Trek info, but I believe the zoo released closer detailed maps of all their new projects. The new elephant map labels three yards. One small one in front of the overlook view - a transfer exhibit I assume, and then of course the two and three we already know of. However, again! this one does in fact show a "Rocky Outcrop Exhibit" in the back. It appears they'll be expanding beyond the Zoo's current border. It still doesn't reveal what will take the space of the white lion exhibit.

Sumatran Rhinos & the Final Tour of Wildlife Canyon​


Since 1989, Wildlife Canyon has been showcasing lesser known and endangered species of hoofstock from many parts of the world. After nearly a century and a half in the making - the canyon finally closed its paths. This episode isn't just a walk through, but rather a commemoration for being part of the zoo's history in many ways. Over the years, the Wildlife Canyon displayed babirusas, Mhorr gazelles, wild horses, oryxes, zebra duikers, and many hoof stock that are rarely found in zoos today. Including the Sumatran rhinoceros, a notable animal the zoo spent years in attempting to save this declining species. While the zoo said goodbye to these animals, they will make way for a brand new attraction in 2020. Watch, and join me in the only way you'll ever get to experience the Wildlife Canyon again.

That would appear to be the case. I had assumed that the construction was for the new entrances and ticket booths only, but this would make it seem that the construction for both the new entrance village and current elephant yard expansion will occur at the same time. I did not originally expect that they would do much to the current elephant yards until after the elephants were moved to Elephant Trek.

I did a little more perusing after you posted the links to the other renderings for Elephant Trek and Roo Valley, and I found this:

Which does label the exhibit as an expanded elephant yard.The new entry village is supposed to open next year as well, so it will be interesting to see how the elephant expansion plays out.

Good eye. Well that's exciting, good to know the girls won't have to wait for years until their knew home is built. Well... if they're even going to be a part of the Elephant Trek anyways.

Speaking of maps, the zoo updated theirs. Of course Wildlife Canyon is cleared, as is Eagle Eyrie; the black bear is gone, and though I'm sure it's a winter only thing, a bald eagle is apparently in the Komodo dragon exhibit.

Why is Eagle Eyrie cleared out?
 
Also, are they now cancelling the plan to have a mixed rhino/zebra exhibit?

I noticed that zoo. I guess it's just a wait and see thing. The map has always showed a stream in between the two, the website said they would be mixed, but the new maps hint they're getting their own individual yards.
