Living in the area I've always been interested in Clacton Pier's history of keeping dolphins and killer whales. Being only in my mid 20's I was too young to have seen them. Although I remember the pier keeping sealions in the early 1990's and seeing them taking part in shows.

I've come across this website which makes for interesting reading and has some good photos.
The Dolphins & Whales on Clacton Pier 1971-1985

I've also read that the pier kept penguins in the past, can anyone confirm this and know which type of perguins they were.

I'd be interested to hear other people's memories and stories of the pier's dolphins and whales.

Cheers,
Bugs

hi just wanted to say what a fantastic website im glad someone has took the time to put it together . Forgetting the politics of keeping these species captive its a great trip down memory lane when marinelands were popular in England. I myself never visited Clacton but was afrequent visitor to Windsor . Im aware of the Bloom family and how experienced and knowledgeable they were . Again what a great site and Bugs thanks for the link .
