Govt backs Million Dollar Mouse campaign - Yahoo! New Zealand News
The government is backing a campaign to raise $1 million to help rid the Antipodes Islands of mice.
Economist and philanthropist Gareth Morgan has launched the Million Dollar Mouse campaign because the sub-Antarctic islands are home to rare bird and plant species.
Mice are eating birds eggs and young chicks and Dr Morgan is offering to match public donations dollar for dollar.
Conservation Minister Kate Wilkinson says it's a great idea and she's told her department to throw its weight behind the campaign.
