I think when those original Lions from India were discovered impure, there was no breeding- in fact I'm not sure there was any to start with- certainly neither Jersey or Marwell bred from theirs.

The Marwell pair were purchased from Berlin Tierpark , where they were bred - if my memory serves me correctly . I think quite a few were bred there from impure stock obtained from India .

The Jersey pair , I think , came directly from India .

I'm sure that I've read on here and heard from reliable sources that the Tierpark held both Asiatic and African at the same time in the Alfred Brehm building and this went on until about 2001/02. Surely they couldn't have been hybridised in Berlin?
