I see there is a newish roadside zoo in Texas, opened in 2023. It's north of Columbus, Texas, which is not quite halfway between Houston and San Antonio. Says it has USDA certifications for boarding services for exotic pets, and also for a breeding loan program for "responsible captive propagation of exotic species" but doesn't appear to have an AZA or ZAA accreditation. Pretty small footprint from the Google Earth image. I haven't been there, but from the information and photos on the website it appears they have:
  • Capybaras (at least 2)
  • Galapagos tortoises (at least 2)
  • A serval
  • A leucistic python
  • A Cuban crocodile (still a juvenile in the photos)
  • Alligators (at least 6)
  • Ostriches (at least 6)
  • Goats
  • A small iguana of some kind with orange coloring
  • A serpentarium that claims to be the largest collection of rattlesnakes in Texas. From photos I see a rattlesnake of some kind, but bright orange with no markings, and an underdeveloped looking rattle, another rattlesnake that's also orange but looks larger and has faint markings similar to those of a western diamondback, and also a diamondback in its natural coloration. I would assume it is a western diamondback because that's what we have here in Texas, but it is fairly dark, so I suppose it could be an eastern diamondback imported from Florida.
