Visited YWP yesterday. Had a really good time. The park has changed a lot since I last went before the new year. Some of the enclosures had moved and some were completely empty.
The Worlds Farm enclosure has moved to behind the old Contact Area enclosure. The new Contact Area Enclosure is now where the Worlds Farm was, but appeared to be empty, I'm not quite sure why though???
The Raccoon Dogs have a new enclosure down at the end of the old Contact Area, which they seem to be enjoying.
The Meerkat and Yellow Mongoose enclosures were the same as ever. The female mongoose was spending a lot of time inside and appeared to be making some sort of 'nest area', so fingers crossed there!
The Lemur Woods enclosure was pretty much the same as always, but now has more clearly defined pathways. The two new Lemur arrivals from last year were very lively and seemed to be thriving very well! The Red River Hog enclosure was the same as it has always been.
The South American walkthrough appeared to be slowly on its way, but is definitely not going to be open for the end of Feb, as the park map states. The Guanaco have now been moved to a new enclosure next to the camels, leaving their old enclosure completely empty, however the map shows that their should have been Addax in there, so I'm assuming that will be filled again soon.
The camel enclosure was very large, but was poorly fenced (just a few old electric fences) however across this enclosure the new Tiger house can be seen and the Tiger enclosure was being built. I was told by a ranger that the first pair of Tigers would be in place by the Easter holidays.
The Hunting Dog enclosure had recently been mown, but was once again empty, no sign of them anywhere. I've not seen them on my last 3 visits.
The African Plains enclosure was pretty barren, with all the animals staying on the other side of the field near the shelters. Lion Country was full of visitors, taking pictures of the sleeping Lions. They seem to have all settled in very well, but were not very lively.
The Flamingos have settled in well and are quite content in the small lake area.
Overall is was a really nice visit, and the park is coming along very nicely and it is set to be a very busy year for YWP. Watch this space!
