Zoo København Copenhagen Zoo News 2014

I saw some information about a plan to obtain a third breeding pair of Tasmanian devils and that the new Devil-enclosure should give space to a total of 20 animals ( 3 breeding-pairs and their offsprings ).
For the Wallabies Red-necked and Yellow-footed rock wallabies were mentioned !

They would need a second breeding pair first, surely? :p

Be nice if some of the offspring started filtering elsewhere really.
 
Yellow-footed rock wallaby is still only a maybe.

They also mentioned grey kangaroo - here's personally hoping it will be eastern grey kangaroos as we don't have any of those in Denmark (of course, it could be Aalborg Zoo's western greys they're taking over since apparently, Aalborg Zoo are planning to let them leave the collection sooner or later).

As far as I know, they do have a second breeding pair. They imported 2,2 in 2012, and I haven't heard anything but all of them still being alive. Only two of the animals have bred, but the other two are still a possible breeding pair.

Ah, yes - had forgotten it was 2,2 which arrived rather than 1,1 :p

In recent years, due to the FTD, the wild Devils in Tasmania have undergone 'population stress' resulting in a reduced lifespan and the attendant breeding span also much reduced, to possibly just one litter/breeding year per female.

I wonder if the breeding lifespan for these captive Devils will follow the same pattern, or if it can somehow revert to the longer breeding cycle of several years,which used to be typical for the species. Either way it could have implications for Zoo breeding.
 
This data should already be available from the Australian breeding programme. I m not sure if has been shared with Copenhagen or if it is public at all though.

Yes, I hadn't thought of that. I imagine Copenhagen would have been advised of whatever they do know about them.

Rather an odd way to phrase a headline...

Presumably the zoo have waited until after the summer months to do this work, which seems a fairly major job that will cost a lot of money. I don't think I can recall another major zoo exhibit being shutdown so soon after opening for these sort of remedial works, but I suppose it must happen.
 
The young Hippopotamus was killed by the male hippo on Sunday of Third The Advent. :(

The zoo has also released a site for their Rhinos, there people can read info and to know how them save rhinos in wild (the site is only in Danish). The zoo is also waiting soon for a rhino baby. :D It was 35 years ago a rhino have been born in the zoo.
