Cotswold Wildlife Park and Gardens Cotswold Wildlife Park news 2017

Hi, I was hoping to visit Saturday as I'm in the area...

Due to the recent outbreak of avian influenza (bird flu) in Europe, we have taken some precautions to help protect our birds and prevent further spread of the virus. Therefore, some bird species may be off show and some areas closed. Closed areas will include the Tropical House (including Sloths and Rodrigues fruit bats), Bird Walkthrough Aviary and part of the South American Walkthrough, including the Wolves and lake.

Does that take (m)any primates out of play? I'd like to go anyway but I'd be making someone drive there and dragging them around...

It doesn't take any primates out - I did wonder if the madagascan walkthrough would close as it has a small pond area but it is not marked as red on the map. You can see what you'll miss here:

Thank you. It was my first visit and I had high hopes. I really enjoyed it, it's a nice place to walk and has some cool niche species. You can get closer to the animals than a lot of other zoos too.

The crowned sifakas were (of course) a highlight, plus the wolverines and the siamangs who were singing for about half an hour.

Glad you enjoyed it - I really like the feel of the place too, always a very relaxing visit and the reptile house is excellent imo. Did you see any sifaka out in the walkthrough?
 
One passed away a few months ago and the remaining 2 are in a nearby enclosure in the walled garden. In the walk-through it's just ring-tails, red-bellies and the brown collared currently. There will be some very cool lemur news announced soon but I was sworn to secrecy!

1/In Little Africa the singleton Eastern Africa Crowned crane has moved to a new collection
2/ There is now a pair of Stanley Cranes in the outside paddock of the Little Africa Display.
3/ 64 (!) adult White storks have arrived from a rescue centre in Poland .They all have various degrees of wing damage leaving them vulnerable to predation in the wild.They have been in quarantine for 30 days and will be moved to their own paddock

1/Sadly following a surgical procedure today one of the male giraffe has passed away.
2/ On a happier note the two white rhino are pregnant one due this March and the other in August this year.
3/The tropical house is now open ,however the Lakeland walk is still closed following avian flu precautions.Therefore the new Pelicans and European wolves still can not be viewed.
 
Great news on the rhino pregnancies - Cotswold seem to have a good record
Which giraffe has passed away ?
This seems to be a popular zoo with a nice variety of animals

I went yesterday and the Sifakas have a baby- that might be the cool news?

The Tropical House and Lake/Wolves/woodland walk area are all now open again but the aviary walkthrough in the walled garden is still closed.

I haven't been for several years. No major changes though I hadn't seen the Giraffe House completed. The Park was still its usual immaculate self. Will post a few photos in the Gallery shortly.
 
Any interesting highlights to report within the Tropical House?

When Zoochat first started I uploaded six rather fuzzy shots of the Cotton Terraces at ZSL for an Australian member. Then a few weeks back I uploaded 3 or 4 in the Bristol gallery and one in the Wildlife section. That's nearly a dozen in about 7 years- what more do you want?:)

I have got a little camera now so expect a few more sometimes.

Century the giraffe is still going, so i`m guessing it could be Wallace or one of the Rothschilds. Is there any new species that Cotswolds are potentially going to be receiving or looking at accommodating ? Any news greatly appreciated
