They were held in the Walled Garden, and were maybe Baikals. I know that the plan was for Baikal seals but not sure if they got them or ended up with a more local species like grey or common?https://www.instagram.com/p/CM66QIYs_Oc/?igshid=7j0ut6jiolyn
Cotswolds Wildlife Park celebrates its 51st birthday today.
Probably the most interesting thing about that post on Instagram is that the park once held Seals! If anybody has any information about this it would be hugely appreciated.
I've never seen seals on any of my visits to Cotswold Wildlife Park; however ZooTierListe shows Cotswold Wildlife Park as former holders of common seal (harbour seal). They were held in the Walled Garden, and were maybe Baikals. My information is half-remembered from the book about the history of the place (name escapes me, Rhino's On The Lawn?), and it's only a passing reference to the Baikal seals, so that's why I assumed they never acquired them.I've never seen seals on any of my visits to Cotswold Wildlife Park; however ZooTierListe shows Cotswold Wildlife Park as former holders of common seal (harbour seal).
I don't believe any UK zoo other than London or Twycross ever exhibited Baikal seal.
I have the book, will start checking it out!My information is half-remembered from the book about the history of the place (name escapes me, Rhino's On The Lawn?), and it's only a passing reference to the Baikal seals, so that's why I assumed they never acquired them.
I think it's quite early on, unfortunately I've only read it once and it was borrowed from a friend and I've now returned it so can't double-check. It's also why I said it was "half-remembered", therefore absolving me of any blame if I'm wrong!I have the book, will start checking it out!
