Couple of elephant questions

Has anyone ever (or even thought of) mixing
African elephants and hippos and or rhinos (black or white)

and
Asian elephants with Indian rhinos or any other hoofstock

I'm guessing its not been done since elephant exhibits have traditionally
been 1-2 acres (at best).

I surmise a large paddock of 15-20 acres would suffice for such interactions.
I know that there was a spate of juvenile elephants killing rhinos in the wild , but shirley zoos don't have such hooligans.:) . Elephants and hippos might be dicey.
I know of nowhere were asian elephants have been mixed with anything.

Elephants and hippos are regularly mixed in at least 2-3 different facilities in the states. Off the top of my head I know both Disney and Birmingham allow their hippos into the elephant pools periodically.

As for Asians, while I can't think of any mixed exhibits in NA off the top of my head, in Europe there are facilities that house Asian deer species with their Asian elephant herds. I can't spell the name but the facility houses the breeding bull Sibu being one such example.

At Dierenrijk in Mierlo, near Eindhoven, the Netherlands Asian elephants are kept together with a herd of Axis deer as well as a group of rescued long-tailed macaques. At least they were at the time of my last visit a couple of years ago. This is indeed the facility housing breeding bull Sibu.

At Safaripark Beekse Bergen in Hilvarenbeek, the Netherlands African elephants live together with hamadryas baboons. Beekse Bergen is home to breeding bull Calimero.

These are the only two examples I know of and have seen of elephants in mixed enclosures in Europe, but there may be more I am not aware of.

Birmingham will eventually mix their (bull) elephants with the Hippo, White Rhino, Giraffe, Ostrich, and Zebra in various combinations in the main yard.

Birmingham Zoo's Trails of Africa complex opened in 2011 and now 7 years later and the elephants are still not mixed with the other species? It will be interesting to see if the combination ever actually takes place on a permanent basis.

The Zoo happened to post this today. I've also seen the giraffes and rhinos out in the main yard on my visits.
