Chester Zoo crane chick

What a beautiful Chick. Reminds me of the Red-Crowned Crown chick (now two years old) at Paignton Zoo when he/she was a babe.

Others in the UK?

A commenter on ZooBorns said this wasn't the first one to be born in the UK. We took that from the press release but would be interested to know if that wasn't actually the case. Does anyone know for certain?

I am fairly sure that Chester has been breeding this species successfully for a number of years .

Rode Bird Gardens first bred this species in the UK in 1979.

47 chicks hatched at Chester. Incidentally Chester is supposedly the furtest north that this species will breed in Europe.
