Dallas Zoo Dallas Zoo News 2018

It must be such a hard time for the team when things like this happen - the initial excitement and elation of the birth followed by such sadness and disappointment.
 
Does anybody know if Tendaji is recomended to breed with Nolwazi, Mlilo, Zola, and possibly Amahle?

Yea. I was so bummed when I heard the news. But I least he had a daughter with Mara at the Los Angeles Zoo. I wonder now though if Tony the baby hippo at San Diego Zoo will go to Dallas Zoo because Tony was Adhamas brother and his genetics are closely represented to his brother so I wonder if the AZA will send Tony to the Dallas Zoo as part of the SSP?

Tony only being a year old, I doubt he’d go anytime soon
 
There are a number of single male hippos, 11 who do not have breeding recommendations. There are more males out there but many are excluded due to unknown pedigree. I discounted any male under 2.
 
An interesting move, but I support it! Dallas is still well off with their young cows Zola and Mlilo to expand the herd in the future, and this this will add some much needed numbers to fresno (Vus Musi being a genetically valuable male only adding positives to the situation.
