Dallas Zoo Dallas Zoo news 2019

Nor were they on exhibit in November 2019.

That said I'd be interested to hear what your thoughts were on the Dallas Zoo. Did you also visit Fort Worth and the Dallas World Aquarium?

I visited all three, yes. My thoughts on all three are somewhat fuzzy, particularly for DWA as I had received some very bad news during my visit and therefore was not in the most "zoo going" of mindsets for my entire time in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. I do remember enjoying all three collections, however.

Dallas was probably my least favorite of the three. Despite it definitely being a good zoo, I think I was expecting a bit more from the reptile house and definitely from Giants of the Savanna which I remember as being much smaller and less magnificent as has been described on the forum. It's still a great habitat, though, and the African area as a whole is probably the best part of the entire zoo. I remember enjoying the row of raptor aviaries and the reptile house for what it was as well. The tiger exhibit was nice but the viewing was weird iirc.

DWA is not without its faults, particularly when it comes to the viewing opportunities for certain species as well as the size of some enclosures, though the Jaguars having been replaced with Ocelot will have helped. The Shoebill enclosure is pretty horrendous as well. On the other hand, the walkthrough aviaries are truly spectacular and the diversity held within them is almost unmatched. The actual aquarium bit I thought was nice, though design-wise it's mostly a pretty standard gallery--not that there's anything wrong with that. Species-wise it's great also. This is the collection I was most... let's say distracted at so this is definitely the one I need to revisit the most.

Fort Worth is probably my favorite of the three as I remember them. Some areas of the zoo are clearly older and not as great as others but overall it's really solid. MOLA is beautiful and the Texas native area is great as well, even if it's too overly themed for my tastes. Unfortunately the new African area wasn't completed on my visit but from what I saw it looked really good.

What order did you go to them in?
