Hello, I've been wanting to try and attempt a full species list for a while, and I feel Texas zoos don't get as much coverage as some of the more famous northern zoos, so I am planning to do full species lists for Dallas, Cameron Park, San Antonio, Houston, and Fort Worth at some point this summer. please don’t misconstrue! thank you for the list, dallas is one of my favorite zoos! just…you know? they used to exhibit impalas to balance out the cheetahs…be cooler if they still did*

*unless i missed the impalas?

The zoo’s collections bar reptiles and amphibians has gone in the wrong direction in recent years. Especially compared to an ascendant Fort Worth Zoo. The zoo’s not a bad zoo but its not a full-day zoo. The zoo has few bad exhibits though, so if they can raise the money they have a great starting point.

It is true that the zoo has lost a decent chunk of its mammal collection with the loss of the monorail species, though apparently the zoo still has some of those animals there is just no way for the public to see them. The zoo did get African Painted Dogs in 2019 and Maned Wolves this year, but I agree that the zoo needs a new major exhibit especially since it lost it's Australia section. I will defend the reptile house as being better than a pet store though haha.

Thank you! I will keep doing these lists, though I am waiting a bit for this heatwave to cool off a bit. I will see if I can fit Natural Bridge into my trip but I can't promise it!

There are more amazing species on exhibit now!
In Reptile part there are more Cobra: Snouted Cobra/ Naja annulifera, Cape Cobra/ Naja nivea, Samar Cobra/ Naja samarensis, Egyptian Cobra/ Naja haje.
My bad, All of those were there when I visited as well, but somehow those photos didn't transfer to my computer so I forgot to add them, I can't edit my post, but in addition to the ones you listed, they also had a Zebra Spitting Cobra Naja nigricincta next to the bush vipers and mcgregor's pitviper.

Is Dallas the most significant-sized zoo in America (or even the world) without meerkats?

What species are potentially coming to the zoo in the current master plan? Do I remember correctly that a sea lion exhibit was one of the plans?

There really isn’t a current master plan anymore. Between COVID, a pretty much 100% turnover of the upper management positions, and all of the increased security measures following the break-ins, the old master plan is essentially dead in the water. There have been some new guest amenities/experiences brought in to drive income back up again and the addition of maned wolves as a small project, but I would not expect a major project for quite some time. The first major project was supposed to be a parking garage, but the new security measures ate that entire budget.
