Colchester Zoo Death of Sasha - white tiger

Many people are suggesting white tigers shoud be brought back (more so than not unfortunatly) but at the end of the day do these people know the true horror behind them?
The true horror? A bit melodramatic don't you think? ;)

Have just seen the Facebook discussion. So many people suggesting a 'breeding pair' .... apparently to 'conserve the species' etc. There's no doubt that Sasha was a magnificent creature and I'm sure no malintent is intended by most, but the FB thread really does highlight many people's ignorance about white tigers. Given Colchester's usual commedable honesty in sharing news about its animals, it's a shame they weren't perhaps more forthcoming about the origin of white tigers in the info provided for Sasha (though admittedly I'd guess a very small percentage actually bother to read the info boards). NOT replacing him with another white tiger - and explaining why in press releases, Facebook statements and so on - would be an ideal opportunity to educate many people about white tigers.
Yes a very good idea Gill. I really hope Colchester comes up with a better idea than just replacing white tigers. I thought the dhole suggestion above was a good one.:)

I stand by what I said ;)

Thanks, I think the only problem really is that they are not the easiest species to source. However, a recent study showed that they are more endangered than tigers, which could be the basis for a good 'storyline' - saying how they chose to replace Sasha with a pack of dhole over getting more tigers because dhole are more endangered. My two cents anyway :)

'Bulldog' face is an extreme defect some White Tigers have shown from excessive inbreeding. This and other inbreeding defects are only seen in a relatively small percentage of White tigers- many are still fit and healthy.

Photograph of Sasha

Hello all, I am a photographer I have just recently been going through my old photographs to add to my new website and came across one particular one of Sasha that I took 6 months before he passed away, I called it Sasha's Tear and although appears a sad photograph, it kind of gives me the sense that at least he's not suffering anymore. What a beautiful tiger he really was! I thought I would post it here for you all to see x
Im hoping the link will put the photograph within the message. If not the link to it is here...
