Hey, im designing the 'National Aquarium of the United Kingdom' and basically, need help on what zones and species to include. i would just like some help basically, but of course this is a creation of pure fantisy. Thankyou all in advance

Dan:)

My favorite place at an aquarium is usually where they keep all their marine mammals, or penguins.

Many aquariums also have a native species area, so that could have stuff from the seas around the UK.

You could do some different river systems, such as the Amazon, and include semi aquatic mammals, like jaguars or tapirs.

Hope that helps :)

yes that does:), i was planning on a british area with common/grey seals, and maybe even porpoise (and dolphins would be in a separate area. thanks for the help:), im mainly stuck on fish as they are not my speciality :/

Do you just want to keep British species or are you going tropical too?
You certainly need a set of tanks showing different sections of a British river - headwater stream with bullheads & grayling, trout reach with trout and minnows, slower reach with perch & roach etc and then estuary with mullet & flounders.
Marine tanks include a sea grass bed with seahorse & pipefish, rockpools with blennies & anemones, a big tank for conger eels, dogfish, turbot, pollock etc, a wrasse tank (for colours) and an octopus tank.
Hope this helps

For freshwater tropicals, you can't keep everyything. I'd suggest an Amazon display with a really big tank (pacu & arowana) plus a few smaller ones for discus, angels, tetras etc.
I'd also suggest a similar Congo & Lake Tanganyika display (the species are less familiar, but just as spectacular).
I'd also have an oddities section - electric fishes, Australian lungfish, endangered species (desert pupfishes, Mexican goodeids etc).
I could go on and on, but that's probably enough :)

piranhas are very popular at the aquarium here. if you are doing an amazin display i would def put a piranha tank in.
Coral reef tanks are also very popular and great for a bit of colour. Young kids love the colour

One display I would like to see is of the fish of the peat swamps of SE Asia. They have some really unusual mouthbrooding bettas and gouramis. which are also air breathers. The swamps are threatened by deforestation so they would make an interesting conservation display as well. Another one that might be cool are the fish of temporary pools - many species of killifish survive as eggs in the mud, only hatching when the pools refill with water. There are quite a few hobbyists who keep them, so they would be easy to obtain as well.

thanks zoovolunteer:), i was thinking of including a 'oceans of the east' kind of zone:), so prehaps i could it in that part of the zone?, but thankyou all, it is very much appretiated:D
