The zoo has been very busy getting ready for memorial day weekend. Last week they finished the new spider monkey exhibit and this week they have almost finished a new exhibit for their crested celebes macaque. They also hope to move Wallace the hippo into his new exhibit.

The zoo recieved a special tribute from governor snyder at a town hall meeting tonight. They are also trying to find a new mate for their black backed jackal along with currently working at acquiring a female chimp.

The zoo so far this summer has welcomed the births of a baby olive baboon (Gavin), a mouflon lamb, and various farm animals. They are also working with the state government to help Michigan be the first state in the nation with an animal abuse registry. They have put Wallace the hippo in his summer exhibit recently. Here is a video of him romping around in his pond.

Towards the end of summer the zoo recieved a a young female baboon to pair up with Gavin the male baby this year, and finished a new Grizzly bear exhibit.

TheDeYoung Family Zoo has now received a young caracal. This brings the number of cat species at the zoo to 10.

Website only lists seven:
tiger
lion
cougar
lynx (Canada it looks like)
leopard
serval
bobcat

If they have caracal (not on website) that makes eight. What are the other two?

The zoo is gearing up for summer with the arrival of a brown bear cub from another institution. They are also expecting the births of wolves(grey or artic) and hyenas(striped or spotted) in the next few weeks.

It has been an exciting week for the zoo this week. The zoo opened for the season today and they recieved the first copies of the owners autobiography in the mail in the beginning of the week.
