There was a superb documentary about the story of Hercules the bear on Channel 5 last week. Its available online:

Finally got round to watching this and I would echo Paradoxurus' recommendation.

It showcased the "different-ness" of the 1970's well and in particular I was struck by how vast Hercules' enclosure seemed compared to many of his peers in that era.
