Does anybody have any cool Beatles and/or beetles stories?

I've been reading a book about George Harrison, the companion volume to the new film on his life that just came out on DVD.

I know that some Zoochatters here were in England (and other parts of the world where the Beatles toured) in the 1960s. Did anybody here ever see the Beatles live in concert or get a chance to meet any of them?

I was but a zygote when they broke up, so I missed that chance. I have seen Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr in concert and made the pilgrimage to the Abbey Road Studios when visiting London (apologies if that was you who was driving when I zipped across the cross-walk so my sister could take my picture because I probably got in you way).

Because this is a zoo website I need to tie this in to animals, so I'm wondering if anybody has any cool stories about encounters with Coleoptera in zoos or in the wild.

Has anybody here ever seen a Goliath beetle in the wild in Africa, or similarly impressive species? Does anybody here have an inordinate (or ordinate) fondness for beetles?

Never saw them live or met them, but in the early 1980's long after they broke up, I lived for a time just a couple of miles from George Harrison's country place- it was called Fryern Park and was just outside Henley. It was the garden here that he is sitting in, on the cover sleeve of his solo LP 'All Things Must Pass'. Think I saw him driving through the main gates once or twice (he was into racing and fast cars by then).

One summer I worked in a nursing home, and one of the residents was Ringo Starr's aunt. He never came to visit though...

Anyway I made a detour on my bike ride home today and took these:

Thanks for taking these pictures Pygathrix. They are very cool.

Thanks all for your Beatles and beetles stories.

I saw the Beatles live a couple of times in Devon in the 60s. We all screamed so much that it was almost impossible to hear the music! I got some autographs outside a hotel they were staying in. My sister and cousin did even better and managed to get backstage and had photographs taken with them and albums signed.

This was before they were huge so, although it was exciting at the time, it didn't seem as important as it might do in retrospect. In fact, I'd forgotten I had the autographs until I found them while moving house a few years ago. My sister moved to Canada and was looking into selling her albums when she sadly died 4 years ago so I don't know what happened to them, or the photos.

I came across a large stag beetle in Central London late last night. I've posted a photo in the UK-Wildlife gallery:

The guy on the left gives some sense of scale :p

Ha! Without even reading your caption, I knew exactly where that photo was taken. I also know which university is behind you, on the right. ;)

I was quite surprised when I visited over Christmas to see how pedestrianised that road is.

You often find beetles under stones, which reminds me that I also saw the Rolling Stones in Devon in the 60s.

It was nice to be rewarded for a late night revision session with a big beetle :)

Exhibition road has become increasingly pedestrianised in preparation for the large crowds of humans expected this summer. It did need it, but every few months even I'm surprised by the growing number of changes.

So that's what they call it now? "Revision"? :p

What an amazing part of London to be studying in. I never saw a beetle though. I always took the underground pedestrian tunnel to the Tube station, although this pic was taken just before the entrance to the tunnel I think. You know, I spent so much time in the parks admiring the squirrels, but I only ever fed them for the first time last year? My wife wanted to take a pic..,,
