A male Australian Sea Lion pup has been born to female Adelaide (who is a wild-born animal) at the recently renamed Coffs Coast Wildlife Sanctuary. The pup was born in early February and is the sanctuary's 20th sea-lion pup, sustaining a significant portion of the regional population for the species: Coffs Coast Wildlife Sanctuary Celebrates Birth of Male Seal Pup on International Day of the Seal - Coffs Coast Wildlife Sanctuary

Excellent news! I had wondered if Moby (2017) was the sire of the pup, considering he transferred from Taronga Zoo just over a year ago to be their new breeding bull; but apparently the Australian sea lion has an 18 month gestation (not 12 months like the California sea lion), so that rules him out! Fingers crossed we hear of success from him too in the coming years.

Great news! Does anyone know how many sea lions they have now?

They had 11 sea lions in 2017, so I’d assume a similar number. The mother of the latest pup has been at their facility since 2000 and has produced only one other pup, so it appears there’s been a number of different cows breeding.

A young bull (Storm) was transferred to Taronga last year and due to his age, we can assume he was the son of the previous breeding bull; rather than the breeding bull himself (considering what would otherwise be a short tenure).

A male Australian Sea-Lion was born on 15th November to female Mirri. Named Maverick, he is their 21st sea-lion pup - reported on their FB page.

Fantastic news. They hold the record of the most Australian sea lion pups born at one facility.

I wonder if Moby (2017) from Taronga is the sire. His arrival at DMM aligns with the 18 month gestation and he was presumably transferred with breeding in mind.
