Dolphinaris Arizona (Closed) Dolphinaris Arizona News

Considering all these deaths, do you think that Dolphinaris needs to be shut down, or just a serious overhaul in its animal care policies?

I'm not sure how I feel about this; one of the four that died was from a chronic condition of 6 years, so the facility is probably not suspect in that one. The other three happened presumably while
Dolphin Quest representative(s) were checking on conditions at the facility, but it does not say how frequent that was or whether warnings were issued about conditions.

Something is not clear to me. Do all of the dolphins on site belong to Dolphin Quest and this means the attraction will be closing? Or are there other dolphins that do not belong to Dolphin Quest and therefore the facility will remain open?

Their animals are all owned by either Dolphin Quest or Six Flags. 2 remaining dolphins are owned by DQ, and 3 by six flags.

Personally, I hope the temporary closure becomes permanent. I have never visited the facility and I am sure I never would. Seeing it in this aerial view (in the video linked above) confirms my suspicion that it is too small for the animals. Dolphins in a swimming pool in the desert - I just don't get it.

If it did close for good, what would you suggest turning it into? An extension of the nearby aquarium? An actual swimming pool?

Hmmm - that's a good question. I wonder what they could do to adapt it for use at the aquarium? It will be interesting to see what happens at the property.
