...or Zoo de la Domaine de Pescheray, or Zoo de Pescheray (they seem to use the names in rotation).

Visited this collection in June - it's basically a Wildpark that defines its scope as the wildlife 'of Europe and of France' - the latter technicality allowing them to display species from French Guiana and Mayotte as well as metropolitan France and the rest of Europe. I don't think anything completely breaks the theme - though there are some 'European' species that only occur(red) as introductions (Red-necked Wallaby the most tenuous, but also Northern Raccoon etc).

There are some very nice rarities dotted around, including Pyrenean Chamois, Beech Marten, Crab-eating Raccoon, Tayra and Brown ('Mayotte') Lemur, and a very pleasant wooded site - the enclosure are mostly typically non-architectural Wildpark enclosures.

Some news for this year :
- new enclosures for crested porcupines, polar foxes and northen racoons,
- arrival of red-crowned cranes, new species for the zoo.

Anybody knows the origin of the long-legged buzzard Buteo rufinus at Zoo de Pescheray - or whether it is North African cirtensis or East European rufinus?

have you got photos? The few specimens that appear in Spain in zoos are animals from Recuperation Centers that used to be accidentals from cirtensis subsps.

Not, unfortunately. However area of origin would be safer ID than external appearance.

Some great news from Pescheray :
- birth of a crab-eating raccoon last january 12th. According to the zoo there are only 12 animals in Europe in 4 institutions. Pescheray is one of the two breeding facilities (with Overloon) and held 5 animals.
- Vita, a 3 years old female eurasian elk, arrived last january 18th to be paired with Racka, the resident male. Viat came from l'Espace Faune de la Forêt d'Orient (France).
