Port Lympne Wild Animal Park drills

I am sure there would be plenty of surplus males that the Pandrillus Foundation could spare , but I do wonder if there would be a significant opposition to sending animals from a 'good' rescue institute to a 'bad' zoo ( in the eyes of many of the sanctuary supporters ) . I know primates have reached the UK from Asian rescue facilities - orangs and gibbons - but am not aware of any coming from Africa .

Do any UK zoos actively support Pandrillus ?

1) it is sad and humbling that some in the conservation biology/wildlife grouping yet regard zoos as expandable notions, whereas we really should be thinking about CONSERVING SELF-SUSTAINING POPULATIONS in situ and ex situ.

2) A fair no. of European zoos do support Cercopan/Pandrillus with the drill and other endangered primate work.

Photos to follow, when I get a chance to sort and process them.

Sorry that it's taken me so long: time gets shorter when a new term starts.
Here are the labels.

I've just posted shots of old Gorbi and their ugly enclosure in the Gallery.

There has been another more recent (female) birth since 'Afi' and possibly more than one(I am not sure).

The gap in the boards is obviously where they removed the nameplate for the young female that was sent back to Europe.

It is an ugly enclosure but much more spacious than what they had at Stuttgart, I think. I noticed the 2nd time I saw them at PL, after a year of living here, that Gorbi was much more active and nimble trotting along the high poles- I suspect he has become much fitter than previously.
