Just to start this thread off I have a question I would like a answer to this was taken from there website to do with the census they have to take yearly for legal purposes.

DZG’s TOP TEN: Largest group of birds: 59 Humboldt penguins; Largest group of mammals: 19 Barbary sheep; Largest group of insects: 352 stick insects; 3 Asiatic lions; 4 Bornean orang utans; 3 Rothschild giraffes; 11 meerkats; 28 Madagascan lemurs (6 species); 7 flamingos; 10 Asiatic short-clawed otters

Question is I thought they had 5 Bornean Orangutans. 1 Rothchild's Giraffe and 2 Hybrid Giraffes, even if this was the result from last years Census then Surely they would have had only 1 Rothchild's Giraffe could someone kindly explain just in case I got it wrong.

EDIT- anyone know if they have put the Black Cheeked Lovebirds in there new avairy yet

adrian1963, I seem to remember that indeed 2 hybrid females were brought in to accompany the pure-bred Rothschildt's male.

I expect Dudley Zoo staff know full well what is going round ..., so another case of journalistic insolence ... (lol)!!

Kifaru Bwana the information in the starting thread came from the Zoo's own website so if it is a mistake it's by the zoo's own steff not a journalist me thinks.
Unfortunatly this is still a mystery not just to me but quite a few other people are now a little bemused by the caption on thier website.

Visited today 23/01/2012 first thing to report

2 baby Black Crested Macaques one born late November and one born Late December both out in the outdoor enclosure.
One mother is the female with only one arm (due to accident in 2010).

Sumatran tiger and Amur will arrive about the end of the first week of Feb or 2nd week at latest.

Snow Leopards still seperated but have seen the Black cheeked love birds at last

New fencing being put up around the back of the reptile house right up to the edge of the penguin enclosure.

The Black Faced Spider Monkey is still on his own in Primate House 1 (Quarantine).

Work ongoing at the back of the Shop and shop being refurbished again.

Anyone know where they will be going in the zoo as the enclosure won't be finished until at least 17th or maybe a little later due to the weather

Hi Jordan unfortunatly the indoor lion enclosures are now home to the Gelada, the Bear indoors are still the Bears indoors but refurbished so as to allow Inca to have alot more space,
The old Tiger indoor enclosures are now the access area to the new indoor enclosures.
I was under the impression from both the keepers at dudley and an e-mail I recieved from wuppertal-zoo recently that they were traveling over on the 17th Febuary mind you that could change as they were supposed to be here in the middle of January but paper work problems have delayed thier arrival (good job because enclosure hadn't been started then).
We will have to wait and see if the keepers and maintance staff can pull things together and have it done in time (looks like another good job by the staff again and at low cost)

Well having been today I can say the enclosure didn't look that far off,but they do have the off-show dens in the Tiger enclosure in which they can, still use by the look of it!

I was only passing on information they were telling everyone who were asking about the Tiger enclosures, I was told that they had knocked the old indoor (off show) enclosures through to make a passage way so as to be able to get to the new indoor enclosure.
The New off show enclosures will be in the old small cat enclosures that are blocked off at present and waiting to be refurbished. (just passing on information given openly to visitors by staff)

are they keeping the tigers separate do you know or on show in the same enclosure?

Think it's together as they were both reared up together and both hand-reared. They should be on show in the same enclosure, I don't think just yet though until there settled in. The female Amur eventually will move to Whipsnade apparently.:)

Tschuna (Amur) and Daseep (Sumatran) the two Tigers arrived from Wuppertal Zoo late last night. Daseep is the first Sumatran Tiger at Dudley Zoo since Sarah who died in 2010.
