STAFF at Dundee’s Hotel and Wildlife Park are bidding farewell to the animals that have made the park a local landmark for decades.
The wildlife park section of the popular tourist attraction will close its doors on July 3.

Owners and managers of Dundee’s did not respond to inquiries from The Standard yesterday but wildlife park workers said they believed the decision to close the park had been taken because it was no longer economically viable.

Wildlife park manager Maurie Wells and park assistant Tracy Loechel are now searching for new homes for the park’s animals, with everything from crocodiles to canaries in need of new accommodation.

“At this stage we’ve sent out a species list to other South Australian and close Victorian parks, and at the moment we’re receiving expressions of interest,” Mr Wells said.

He said homes had already been found for the park’s freshwater crocodiles but there were still two more crocs yet to be placed.

Has Bredl's closed too?

Good thing I got to visit them both last year when I passed through.

That's very disappointing - I remember visiting there as a kid, and we stopped in on our way to Adelaide for Christmas the year before last.

I've got a great photo from Bredl's of a python wrapped around my wife who was holding our 18 month old son - he was fascinated by the snake!

Very sad news. I drove past it on tuesday on my way back from Melbourne and thought I should go there some time. Lucky I went just over a year ago.
