Dwarf... giraffes?!

Researchers have discovered several dwarf giraffes in Africa! Their legs are shorter than a normal giraffe's. Dwarfness can occur in any mammal but is extremely rare, outside of some domestic breeds. I know of several purebred dogs from well-bred litters that ended up being dwarfs, for example, along with entire breeds that are of course (corgi breeds, dachshunds, munchkin cats, etc).
These animals don't appear to be related, as they're entirely different subspecies.
