There was a 7.1 magnitude earthquake in Mexico City on 19 September (the same day as the 1985 Mexico City quake which killed thousands). The death toll is now nearing 300, both inside the city itself and in the surrounding areas where there has been much devastation.

Best wishes for @carlos55 and other members in Mexico.

I cannot find anything on damage to the zoos or aquariums in the vicinity, as yet.

Estimado David,I was at the university during the quake, lots of books fell, scary but everything is going back to normal now. When i arrived home my aquariums were broken and all the fish died. But my family is alright.Gracias, to all zoochaters who have expressed their concern.I hope you californios take precautions for future disasters if they occur.

oh :(

Exactly the same thing happened to me when my city was hit by a major earthquake several years back. All my tanks were smashed and most of the fish died, although some were lucky enough to be caught in pools on the floor amongst the debris and I managed to get those into a bucket where they stayed in cold water for days. Surprisingly, many of those recovered once I could get them to someone else whose aquariums had survived.

I am glad you, family and loved ones are safe and sound.

Just thinking of all those unfortunates' within the Ciudad to be homeless and the casualties. What carnage in the central city, not to mention the neighboring states of Morelos, Puebla and Guerrero.

I heard that on top of that another quake hit Oaxaca state this week (where the first one a few weeks back hit out hard …).
